Not all of these tasks are about cleaning, some deal with maintenance as well. But including them during spring cleaning ensures that you get a chance to look after it at least once a year.1.    Test alarmsMost UK homes have at least two safety alarms – the smoke alarm and the carbon monoxide alarm. Although your alarm company should be responsible for conducting an annual check, you should definitely use this opportunity to have them tested. This would also be a good time to change their batteries and have their vents cleaned as well. You can either call the alarm company or hire third party contractors to do the testing.2.    Change batteriesTalking of changing batteries, this is a good time to buy them in bulk and put them in everything that you have been ignoring since they stopped working because the battery ran out. This may include a variety of things like your children’s toys or your gardening equipments.3.    Check fire extinguishersIf you do not have a fire extinguisher in the house, you should get one immediately. And if you do, you should book a visit from the council or another third party tester to check that it is still working. While at it, make sure you clean it gently so that it is dust and rust free.4.    Change air filtersIf you have air filters installed in various fittings in your house, this is the time to take them out, clean them or change them. Make sure they are free of mold, and if you see any growing, you might want to call in the mold cleaning company to survey your house.5.    Clean ductsThis should be done be a professional cleaning contractor and at least once every five years. If you have had an incident or use your air conditioning/ heating system more, then you should have it done every three years.6.    Wax or buff your floorsDepending on the kind of flooring you have, consider stripping the damaged layer above and wax or buff it again. Not only does it make your house look nice, but it also increases the longevity of your floorboards. 7.    Window cleanersOnce a year, it might be a good idea to hire a cleaning agency to have your external windows cleaned professionally, especially if your building administration does not do that.8.    Clean grill and patio furnitureSummer time will be arriving soon and you might want to organize some BBQ dinners in your backyard.
